Five Reasons to Visit Beavers Bend in the Springtime

Rejoice! Spring has arrived—and with it, one of the best times of the year to discover the natural wonders that lie around the Beavers Bend. From the blooming of thousands of dogwood trees to the abundance of delicious seasonal produce (strawberries!), here are five reasons to plan a spring getaway to Beavers Bend.

1) The Fishing Conditions.

First, let’s be real: Beavers Bend has some of the best fishing in the state, no matter the season. The Mountain Fork Rivers are stocked year-round with trout and draw serious fly fishers from all over the country. But spring has the best weather, with average lows and highs ranging from the mid 50s to the mid 80s—which means you have a perfectly crisp chill to slowly wake you up in the mornings, followed by pleasantly balmy afternoons that will make it difficult to call it a day.

2) The Local Produce.

Crisp green beans. Crunchy cucumbers. Summer squash (don’t let the name fool you). The heavenly trinity of blueberries, blackberries and strawberries. We all know spring yields some of the best Oklahoma produce—and those aren’t the half of it. The fruits and vegetables of Beavers Bend’s rich soil can be found (and purchased) all over the area, including at the Idabel Farmers Market and the Valliant Farmers Market.

3) Witnessing Nature’s Renewal.

Beavers Bend is home to some of the most breathtaking and varied natural beauty in the state. Rich hues of green blanket the densely forested rolling hills of the Ouachita Mountains, the majestic wildlife reappear, and thousands of dogwood trees bloom in the Idabel area—a gorgeous sight commemorated annually with the Idabel Dogwood Days Festival.

4) The Festivals and Community Events.

As the weather warms, Beavers Bend bustles with opportunities to get to know your neighbors and experience the area culture. April has the Beavers Bend Kayak Classic and the Girls Gone Wine Golf Tournament, May features the 10th Annual Red Slough Birding Convention, and June brings the Owa-Chito Student Art Show, among many others. 5) The Cabins Are Extra Fresh.

Make no mistake, the cabin owners and managers around here take great pride in hosting visitors and always keep their properties squeaky clean and stocked with the necessities. But there’s something about that first spring stay—the newness of off-season touch-ups and improvements, the buzz of the forest coming alive, and, of course, the allure of an outdoor hot tub session on a mild evening. Don’t forget to look up and experience the otherworldly glow of a star-filled night sky—you definitely don’t see stars like this in the city. What’s more, the cabins come in all shapes and sizes, with options ideal for everything from honeymoons to family vacations to company retreats.
